This Friday it's all about refashioning. My first refashions were over 10 years ago and then they stopped after 2003. Well a lot of sewing stopped in actuality, I have done about the same amount of sewing in 8 years that I did during those two. This blog has changed that thankfully. Here is one of my refashions I still wear
The front:
And the back:
The fabric insert is vintage that Grams gave me years ago.
The refashioning bug has hit again but I am drawing a blank for ideas. The outfit I want to refashion is the one my late Aunt Sandy wore at my wedding. About 6 months after she passed away I helped my uncle sort through her clothes and he gave many of them to me and my sisters. I love the outfit but it isn't my style or size and I would love to be able to have something in my home (clothing, accessory, decor) that is from this outfit instead of just donating it to a charity.
Here is the detail on the sleeves and pants:
So my call is to our readers, help!
Please comment or email your ideas. I love this and would love to be able to take it from the back of a hall closet and into my daily life!

Hmmm! Gorgeous colour with that wonderful detail. As a non-sewer who is desperate to remedy that and a newly devoted frugal homemaker I agree refashioning or repurposing is the way to go.
ReplyDeleteMy first thoughts on seeing the detail were cushions with the gorgeous detail down one edge? However, thinking further on it I was wondering about coasters or placemats?
I also think a lot and tend to get carried away so continuing on with my repurposing trend what about some pretty drawstring bags?
BTW I love your blog.
I'm by no means a "sewer". I'm still a beginner, so I'm not sure what it possible...but could the pants be turned into a pencil skirt? And maybe you could take the shirt and take off the collar and replace it with the detail on the bottom of the pants. Then tailor the top to be more fitted and use excess fabric from the pants to make a belt to go around the upper waist. Just a thought.
ReplyDeleteI fall into that trap where I have a ton of clothes I want to refashion, but no ideas. This blog here is awesome, http://newdressaday.wordpress.com/.She refashions a new article of clothing each day. It's given me tons of inspiration. Hope that helps and good luck!
ReplyDeleteHmm . . . so many good suggestions to pick from . . .
