Sunday Spotlight

I've been staring at a blank page for quite some time trying to figure out how best to start this Sunday's Spotlight.

I think the answer is to keep it simple . . .
The name of her site says it all and the quote on her header adds the perfect touch.

Cheryl from A Pretty Cool Life

"The ordinary acts we practice every day at home do more for the soul than their simplicity might suggest."

I have spent hours lurking on Cheryl's blog and it is always a breath of fresh air.  I'm in love with the colors and fabric she uses and even more so with the cute projects she shares.

I too think she has a pretty cool life not only because of her talent, but because she lives in a 1946 Cape Cod and she went to college to play volleyball.  Just some of my favorite things.

Here are a few of my favorite things from her blog:

No sew roman shades complete with tutorial (in her dreamy remodeled kitchen).
A definite low cost alternative.

And here's a few things for a mini makeover in your kitchen.

Quilted coasters for you and cute for company too!

No need for store bought dish mats anymore.
Use one of these instead.

Simple, quaint, adorable and easy to dress up dinner napkins.

And to complete the make over . . .
a must have, just too cute ruffle apron.

And yes, Cheryl does love the color red.

To learn more about the person behind the creativity, read on . . .

1. When did you first start sewing and why?

I can always remember bugging my grandma to hand sew little projects with me--pillows, clothes for my dolls, you name it. My first formal class where someone actually had the patience to teach me how to thread the machine was in 6th grade.

I remember really looking forward to that class because we were going to make scrunchies. 11 year olds were really cool in the early 90s.

I also made my first quilt in that class, which is something I've done over and over ever since.

2. Name two sewing blogs you frequent.

Oh man, only 2?

I love the projects on The Long Thread and Sew, Mama, Sew!, and I lurk on dozens more.

3. Do you have one thing that inspires you?

I really love the style of Cath Kidston. I try to use color and mix patterns to give a vintage feel to the things I make like she does. I've wasted many naptimes admiring the pretty things on her site. Many of my projects resemble her things.

4. When you are not sewing, what do you do?

Uh, buy more fabric and sewing supplies?

Kidding!

Sort of.

Most days my two little boys and husband are more fun than JoAnn's, so I enjoy spending time with them. My 3 year old is at the perfect age to start crafting, so we do quite a bit of painting, coloring, cutting and gluing together. My 1 year old still doesn't know crafts exist, so we like to snuggle and watch Toy Story. My husband isn't into crafts either, but he's pretty fun to snuggle, too.

5. What is your "guilty pleasure" of eating?

I have a serious sweet tooth. I could eat candy by the bagful!

Alas we have come to the end of today's spotlight.  Are you sad like me?

If so, you can see more of Cheryl's pretty things on her blog, A Pretty Cool Life, or in her Etsy shop, Just Pretty.

Have a Great Day!
